School is in Session

So, yesterday was Lake's first day of Second Grade. How is it that my baby whom I just brought home from the hospital YESTERDAY is already in 2nd grade???? I miss that baby. Oh, sure I love my funny, smart, cute as a button 2nd grader, but I miss the baby who used to sit on a blanket in my living room and play with toys for hours. I miss opening the car door to see his little smiling face sitting in a car seat that was way too big for him. I miss propping him up on the couch and making him smile by doing crazy, silly things. I even miss the diapers, the bottles, the trips to Babies R Us.........It almost makes me want to have..........No, I wont say it - I don't really mean it. I will say this.............I am afraid that when my boys are all grown up, I will regret not having a daughter. There is some truth to the old saying "A son is a son until he takes a wife, a daughter is a daughter for the rest of her life". I see that played out in my friend's (sisters) lives.

Oh how I wish I could stop time for just a few years and keep my babies seven and four for a little while longer...............

On a scary note, I would like to show you what it looks like when a mom and her 2 kids play kickball in the rain for an hour......WARNING: two of these are cute and one is very scary!!

Cute

In the interest of being REAL (see previous post) I thought I would go ahead and scare you with the REAL me (it's okay for you to pray for my hubs because he has to look at this every morning and night - I promise the in-between a.m. and p.m. Inst as scary).

So, for those of you who think I always wear makeup and look "put together", here is proof that I don't --- I should, but I don't. Oh and how 'bout that double chin? That is as REAL as it gets, my friends.
Now go erase this scary mental image from your minds (maybe look at the picture on my sidebar to see that I am not nearly as scary with makeup) and have a great weekend!

I love it! I'm glad you are playing with your kids instead of worrying about how you will look. (And you look pretty good without makeup!)
I love the picture of Lake with the chalk writing too.

Remember, I am your Mom and I have seen you with and without makeup and I love you both ways! It's the inner beauty that shines through. I have seen women with flawless makeup that have no inner beauty because they do not know their Creator; therefore their beauty is dulled. I am so grateful that you know Him and live to follow Him. Forget the makeup!

I'm scarred for life! ...

... You look just fine. I give you a lot of credit for posting a picture with no makeup. Most women would never do it. You're brave.

I also give you credit for "gettin' down n'dirty" with your boys in the rain. That says a lot.

You make me want to cry...not the picture because I have seen you many times without make up...but I also remember that sweet little Lakey. Now he is growing up and getting so tall. Before you know it, he will be grown like mine! That is the natural progression but you will always think back to how cute and sweet they were when they were little. In many ways, life was much easier!

Hello friend. I know. I know. I've been such a stranger, but I'm catching up today. Can I just say what a great idea it was to write second grader with the sidewalk chalk in the picture? Love it. Might copy it. You're okay with that, right? I've missed you, hope all is well with you.

Precious pictures! I've got a 4th grader, 2nd grader and pre-schooler this year! The two oldest are girls.....and I know why you get them for life. Its all the drama you go through until their grown!!! (and we haven't hit teenage years yet) YIKES

Oh, this made me SAD for my little boy to grow up! I just want to stop time! I would love to have a daughter, too, for the same reasons you said!

You are such a good momma Bethanne.
And, really...I don't say that about anybody...and I really don't even "know" you! :)

But...you are one of the most grounded, faith-filled women that I know and that transfers well into your family life.

I really wish we were just a few hours away and could just talk, talk, talk all day long.

And...email me again your email address...I saved you but obviously not under Bethanne and now I can't find you.

That is why you have such a long comment here and really does this have to do with your post??? Yea, i guess it does. :)

Love ya~
Fran

These ages are actually the easiest. You can only say that when those ages have past for your kids and you realize. I remember a time when I was chastized by my mother, father, AND sister for never being home, always on the go, etc. I knew that one day the house work would still be there, work would still be there, everyday life would still be there, but my kids would not. The most important thing is to spent time with the kids and make alot of memories because one day that will be all you have as they grow up. :(
